A head scarf is a fresh and colourful cover-up on a bad hair day – yet whenever I’ve tried to wear them I’ve ended up looking like a cross between Captain Feathersword and Axl Rose.
And while I’m a big fan of ‘Sweet Child of Mine’ by The Gunners, and ‘Hot Potato‘ by The Wiggles, and all the funky moves that come with both tracks, I don’t want to look like I belong in either band.
Here’s how to make the head scarf work for you, and turn a bad hair day into a rockin’ one.
3 ways to wear a head scarf without looking like Captain Feathersword
1. Breezy Bandana Wrap
- Fold your bandanna so it looks like a long, wide band.
- Place the folded bandanna across the back of your head. Pull each end tight towards the front.
- Cross the ends around the front of your head at the hairline, then wrap the bandanna towards the back of your head. Cross the ends again, bringing the ends back to the front.
- Knot the ends in the front at your forehead.
- Tuck the ends under.
2. I’m with the band
- Fold your bandanna so it looks like a long, wide band.
- Place the folded bandanna across the front of your head. Pull each end tight toward the back.
- Knot the ends at the back of your head and drape one side toward your shoulder.
- Team with cool sunnies, and glossy lips.
3. Top Bun Wrap
- Pull your hair into a high, messy bun, and arrange the front into a low side-swept fringe.
- Wrap your bandanna around your bun, positioning under the bun to secure it.
- Knot and tie into a bow at the front, and angle it to the side of your fringe.
Here’s to a breezy day, with nary a pirate in sight!
