While a Breton stripe is an easy (and classic) short-cut to nautical inspired style, the simple fresh combo of red, white and navy whispers of sunshine and lapping water – even when there are no boats to be seen.  

 

Here’s 3 easy tips to create a nautical inspired look,

with nary a stripe or anchor motif in sight

 

If you’re not a huge fan of splashes of bright colours, add tiny drops of red to your outfit instead. Think red lipstick, nail polish, or jewellery. A red hat like this fedora by Lack of Color, $45 is a fun touch, or try red shoes like these.
